Samuel Morse

Samuel Morse (1791-1872) was an American painter turned inventor who developed a single-wire telegraph system and co-created Morse code. On May 24, 1844, he transmitted the first official message — 'What hath God wrought' — from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore, inaugurating the age of long-distance electrical communication and fundamentally changing the speed at which information traveled.
